IDEA ONE
The first idea I have for a documentary is to follow the groups BN, British Naturism and see the reasons why they are part of the group and the difficulties they may face when it comes to people outside of the group and if there could be a possible link to mental health issues, focusing on the court case of the Naked Rambler, Stephen Gough- Who spent 6 years in prison, having been arrested on many occasions for public nudity. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19625542 http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/jul/23/cant-agree-with-naked-rambler IDEA TWO Follow two or three designers who make their own clothes and accesories who then sell them at different markets around London. See the whole process, from them creating ideas, making the items and then going onto selling them. Seeing the struggles of being a young designer with fresh new ideas, battling against the established designers who will try and still your ideas. http://www.kiwisumo.co.uk/about http://loulabellecouture.wix.com/loulabellecouture#!about-us/c173r |

IDEA ONE The first idea I have in regards to a potential documentary is that of the hobby of taxidermy, the people who practice it and the arguments for and against it. The piece will look closely in to what these people enjoy so much about the hobby and why it is an important form of art to them. Such a documentary would be balanced in its content looking at the hobby not just from the taxidermist’s perspective but also from a view point of animal rights or a similar collective or organization.

![]() | Last year a group created a documentary called Food Chained heavily focusing on a man who finds road kill on the side of roads, and if they were in good enough condition, he would bring the animals home, skin them, cooks them and then stuffs them. Although the main character in Food Chained practice taxidermy and it was briefly mentioned in the film, this was a small and insignificant part as it mostly focused on how the man ate the animals and his reasons behind it. My group and I have all watched the piece and can safely say that the film did not give us any inspiration or influence in any way for our documentary, the idea was something we had had for a while. |
IDEA TWO My second Idea for a potential documentary is that of reflecting the laborious day to day working lives and routines of high way lorry drivers. This will involve documenting a small number of different working class lorry drivers from the moment they start work at an ungodly hour of the morning till late at night when there shift finishes. Within the documentary there could possibly focus on a section which compares and contrasts there long and drawn out working lives to that of less demanding delivery men such as drivers for small independent companies. | ![]() |
![]() | What I would hope to convey through such a documentary is the possible alienation and loneliness that such a job comes hand in hand with. I would also like to look at the opposing side to this, that is to say how some may enjoy the peace and quiet as it could be a possible way of escape. Such an idea I feel would work best in the form of both the observational mode, so as to gain a true understanding of the subject at hand with minimal interference, but also expository to anchor the footage here and there in the possible form of a voice of god. |

SPIRITUALITY From a young age we were manipulated into the system of work and drawn from being free to do what we want with peace and harmony. I want to explore how society forces us to follow a particular way of living and how we are so wrapped up in consumption rather than enjoying the values of living and loving. The idea of spirituality inspired me from a good friend of mine who is spiritual herself. She engaged me with her spiritual experiences and attitude towards society. Her views about how society works and manipulates have really intrigued me and i want to find more about how spirituality works against society. Most of us necessarily don't conform to the ways in which Spirituality works. Some may consider a spiritual lifestyle to be weird, exaggerated and dramatic but what people don't understand is how spirituality has transformed peoples lives by giving them a open and positive mindset to life. Focusing on how we should appreciate ourself and the world around us and not the negativity created from society we live in. My aim for this idea is to dig deep into spiritualists life and experience their lifestyle seeing how their view can transforms ours as we are so accustomed to living the way society intended us to. Ideally I want to follow a group of spiritualists and their different spiritual experiences as well as educating and informing the audience about the history and metaphysics of spirituality. It would also be interesting to look into music and spirituality and see how the two merge together. I have managed to contact a poet and a singer who was suggested by my friend of mine. He would be happily filmed himself and said he knows some friends who would like some publicity. LIFE AS CLEANER - INVESTIGATION INTO TOILET HYGIENE A cleaners job may seem dull and unappealing to us but they work hard cleaning up after the public. But what really strikes me is they way some individuals leave the toilets giving the cleaners a harder job. There is definitely a lack of pride in our society but I think as an idea I want to gain an insight into the world of cleaners and how much work they put into the job with so little respect. People need to become more aware of how there unhygienic ways can cause bacteria spreading which leads to illnesses. For this idea, I want to present the daily life of cleaners and the dirty tasks involved in order to keep Britain clean and hygienic. For this I would ideally like to follow three cleaners who work in different public toilets in London. Shocking the audience is important for this documentary as it will almost embarrass the British public for their unhygienic ways and find ways to try and make the toilets more hygienic. | GIVE THE BIGGEST SMILE The second idea I came up with is a very personal subject that I wish to explore and understand. This idea relates to families who look after a child fighting the terminal illness, Cancer. The reason why I want to carry out this idea is because my family nursed a son and a brother for two years suffering with liver cancer. Richard unexpectedly received the illness when he was eight years old. The cancer soon spread and was under going chemo and radio therapy to fight the cancer cells spreading through his body. I do not know the full story of my brother Richard as I was born a year after his death. It is a very sensitive subject to talk about with my family. His death has great affected my parents, brother and sister very much. Even though documentaries regarding Cancer have been done before I would like to visit hospitals specialising in treating child cancer patients and spend time with the child and their families. I would like to find a way to make an opportunity or wish come true for them by raising money and creating a charity scheme where by the public donate money to give a child an opportunity they have always wanted. On behalf of my family and other families I want to show how we can make a child happy by making them ignore their illness and enjoy the time they may have left in their life. This approach to the idea may seem cliche but I want the to get the audience interact with families by making a child happy. This idea may seem challenging but I will communicate with ongoing charities who raise money for cancer and see their views on my idea. GYM OBSESSED? Obsessed with your looks, calorie counting everyday, a gym freak, dieting and trying to find ways to get the hottest body? Society are guilty for it but the fact is we have become so sucked in and manipulated by the media that we have to find ways to maintain a fit body and stay in shape. But in most circumstances some individuals go a little bit too far with the fitness regimes. Men feel the need to put artificial substances into their body which rapidly increases muscle growth. These substances are used as steroids and consequently decrease the testosterone male hormone.Doing this can increase health risks out the human body as they are not growing muscle in a natural way. In other cases some women take androgenic anabolic steroids known as AAS either for a sex change, to become manlier, muscle building, thinking they are 'too fat' 'too skinny' 'too small' and some women who are a victims of rape take AAS to protect themselves. In this generation we have become very obsessed with the way we look and I want to investigate why men and women are so obsessive. It is a big concern to many individuals in the UK and I want to follow the lives of a few individuals who have this obsession known as a Dysmorphic disorder and understand they reason why people follow this obsessive lifestyle of the gym. using the reflective mode of documentary. |
