GRIZZLY MAN (TRAILER) In the space of 2 minutes and 20 seconds, a clever amount of important and relevant information is shown in the trailer for Werner Herzog’s documentary Grizzly Man. Establishing scenery shots are used to relate audiences into the location of the documentary whilst a narrator sums up the story of main subject Timothy Treadwell in a few lines. This therefore catches the audience’s attention really early on and hopefully pursuing them to watch the rest of the trailer. Shots of bears as relevant subjects to the story are introduced before main subject Timothy Treadwell interacting and describing his positive connection with the bears follow. Cutting to reviews and quotes from news follow, portraying the films success, as well as changing the pace to the trailer. Another perspective is introduced through an interview with a bear expert, summing up his and therefore another’s perspective on the story. With the main subject now starting to explain the journey he has been on with the bears, audiences start to understand what the film is about. Following more reviews and relevant shots of the subject the second interview is shown, in which audiences get to see an opposite and negative opinion to the story. With the mood now changed to a more heated one, furthermore Treadwell is also shown in a negative light, with shots of him upset. |
With the soundtrack now kicking in changing the pace and mood of the trailer, a montage effect is introduced with shots of bears and Treadwell. A positive mood is created once again with another interview. Furthermore a continuation of shots portrays this, contrasting Timothy with the bears. With the trailer nearly finished, the name of the film appears and the final shot of main subject Timothy Treadwell is shown in which he sums himself up and therefore summing the film up. Brilliantly audiences now know what happens in the film in a broad manner, however narration and sound prove to audiences that there is a much bigger story in which audiences would have to wait for the full length feature in order to find out.
